Meet the horses: how we match every rider to the right horse

Our horses are at the very heart of Tanzania Horse Safaris.

All-purpose safari horses

Our horses are all-purpose trained safari horses, a mix of local breeds, cross breeds and thoroughbreds. Close to all of them play polo, so they are used to being ridden with one hand (neck-reined). That leaves your other hand free to take photos or dig into your saddlebag out on safari.

Characters with minds of their own

Every horse is given lots of love, care and attention, which shows in their nice characters and strong personalities. They all have minds of their own and different temperaments, which is exactly what allows us to find the perfect fit for each rider.

How we match you

When you book, you fill in our riding questionnaire: your riding experience, how often you ride, the kind of riding you do and the type of horse you prefer. The more accurately you answer, the better we can find you the perfect companion for your safari.

Tack

Every horse comes with its own tack. Most ride in all-round English saddles (without knee pads), and each has its own headcollar, bridle and bit. Every rider carries a saddlebag with the essentials.
