We are Jo and Hansi, the couple behind Tanzania Horse Safaris.
Together with our two children, our wonderful horses and all the four-legged friends that have become part of our lives, we have built Tanzania Horse Safaris around something very simple: our love for horses, wild places, adventure and the freedom of exploring Tanzania on horseback.
We both love being outdoors and have always been drawn to adventure. We love polo, riding, wildlife and the thrill of being somewhere wild and remote. We are, in many ways, a little bit adrenaline-driven—but we also believe that the best adventures are those where everyone feels safe, looked after and confident enough to truly enjoy themselves.
Meet Your Guides
Four guides, four different personalities, one shared passion for horses, wildlife and adventure.
At Tanzania Horse Safaris, our safaris are run by a close-knit team of four guides: Jo, Hansi, Josie and Luke. We take turns leading our different safaris throughout the season, each bringing our own experience, personality and particular knowledge of the African bush to the ride.

Josie
An exceptional horsewoman, confident and fearless in the saddle, with a natural feel for horses and a real appetite for adventure.

Luke
An exceptional birder, with a keen eye for the feathered life of the bush. His ability to spot and identify birds adds another fascinating dimension to the safari experience, often drawing attention to the smaller details of the wilderness that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Josie and Luke are an integral part of the team, bringing their own guiding experience, enthusiasm and love of the outdoors.
Between the four of us, we each have our own way of reading the bush, our favourite wildlife encounters, stories to share and little quirks that make us who we are. What unites us is our love of horses, our respect for the wildlife we ride amongst and our desire to give every guest an unforgettable experience.
A personal note on who will guide your safari: While we cannot guarantee a specific guide for any particular departure, all four of us are part of the same team and share the same commitment to our guests, our horses and the wilderness. We alternate between safaris depending on the itinerary and season, and whoever you ride with, you can expect a genuine, personal and adventurous experience, with the individual character and perspective that each of us brings to the saddle.

Exploring, rather than following a map
For us, a horse safari is not about following a fixed route from one camp to the next.
We love getting out there and exploring. We look for new areas, follow the seasons, discover different landscapes and, whenever possible, take the less-travelled route. Some of our favourite days are the ones where there is no perfectly planned road ahead of us—just the horses, the wilderness and the feeling of wondering what is around the next corner.
That spirit of exploration is at the heart of what we do.
