YOUR JOURNEY DAY BY DAY
ARRIVAL
Arrive in Tanzania and settle into your lodge for the first night of the safari. Take time to relax and enjoy the surroundings before meeting your guide for a safari briefing and sundowners. Depending on arrival time, there may also be an opportunity for a scenic horse ride, golf or a relaxing spa treatment. Dinner at the lodge brings the first evening to a close before settling in for the night.
INTO THE SERENGETI
After breakfast, make the short transfer to the airstrip and take a scenic flight over the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater before landing deep in the Serengeti wilderness. After a welcome and an introductory game drive through the park, arrive at camp for lunch and a briefing on the days ahead. In the afternoon, meet your safari horse and head out on your first introductory ride before returning for sundowners and dinner beneath the stars.
INTO THE WILDERNESS
Wake to hot water and the sounds of the Serengeti before breakfast and your first full day on horseback. Ride across the open plains in search of wildebeest, zebra, Thomson's gazelles, jackals and hyenas, experiencing the wildlife from the saddle rather than from a vehicle. Return to camp for lunch and a siesta before heading out again for an afternoon ride. As evening falls, return for drinks and dinner beneath the Milky Way.
FOLLOWING THE MIGRATION
Today the camp moves, following the movement of the wildebeest. Ride across vast open plains and along winding riverbeds, watching for predators and elephants as you travel deeper into the wilderness. A supported bush lunch provides a chance to rest before an afternoon ride in the golden light, eventually arriving at your new camp. Settle in with drinks and dinner beneath the open African sky.
ACROSS THE PLAINS
Ride into a new part of the Serengeti, discovering whatever the day's changing landscape has to offer. The pace can pick up as you ride alongside giraffes moving through the plains, experiencing the scale of the landscape from horseback. Return to camp for lunch before heading out again in the late afternoon to continue exploring the wilderness.
INTO BIG CAT COUNTRY
Another moving day takes you across the Serengeti plains, potentially surrounded by huge concentrations of migrating wildebeest and their newborn calves. After lunch beneath the shade of an acacia tree, leave the horses behind for an afternoon game drive into one of Africa's great big-cat areas, where lions, cheetahs and leopards are particularly abundant.
SUNRISE & OLDUVAI GORGE
Rise before first light for hot coffee before heading out by safari vehicle to watch the Serengeti sunrise. This is prime time for predator activity, with the possibility of seeing big cats hunting as the day begins. After a field breakfast, return towards the horse camp and continue the journey on horseback, stopping for lunch beneath an acacia tree. In the afternoon, ride towards Olduvai Gorge, one of the world's most important archaeological sites and often described as the Cradle of Humankind, before continuing to a new mobile camp.
THE FINAL RIDE
As the journey reaches its final stage, the landscape begins to open towards the Ngorongoro Highlands. With clear conditions and the right light, you may catch sight of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Tanzania's only active volcano, rising beyond the escarpment. The migration may still be moving across the plains around you, adding to the immense scale of the landscape. After lunch, head out for your final afternoon ride — a last opportunity to experience the freedom of the Serengeti from horseback before returning for a celebratory final dinner beneath the stars.
